Man arrested for kidnapping and assaulting Columbia woman

Juan De Dios Rey was arrested on Dec. 2 for a felony warrant for domestic assault and kidnapping with a bond of $50,000, and a misdemeanor warrant for speeding with a bond of $150.

On Oct. 1, Rey picked up a female victim on Vandiver Drive. Rey and the female victim were in an intimate relationship. Rey was supposed to take the victim to her house, but instead he took her cell phone away from her and drove her around town for an hour.

At Providence Road and Stewart Road, Rey stuck the victim in the face with a glass bottle, causing a lump and scratches to her forehead. The victim said Rey continued to drive around.

Rey got on I-70 West and started driving to Booneville. The victim asked Rey several times to take her home, but he refused. The victim said that Rey back handed her in the face while on I-70 near the Stadium exit. She had a scratch on her nose and discoloration. While Rey was driving to Booneville, he told the victim that he was going to tie her up in his basement and torture her. The victim said Rey told her he was going to use pliers to pull out her teeth and fingernails.

Rey took her to an unknown hotel in Booneville, where he rented a room. The victim said Rey made her stay in the room with him and he refused to let her leave or have her phone back. In the morning, Rey made her drive him to work in Fayette, Missouri and when they arrived at his workplace, he gave her cell phone back. The victim drove back to Columbia.

Later that day, the victim said that she met Rey at 904 Vandiver Drive. The victim said Rey walked up to her unprovoked and slapped her across the face with an open hand. The victim said that Rey picked up a brick and threatened to hit her with it. The victim said Rey dropped the brick, got in his vehicle and left. The victim came to the Columbia Police Department lobby to report the assault after Rey left.
