Amid snowfall, crews respond to at least five crashes in less than an hour

On Sunday public dispatch records showed at least 5 crashes on Highway 63 happened between 10:20-11:20 a.m.

This comes after a mixture of snow and rain entered into Columbia.

Our ABC17 crews responded to a few of the crashes.

When asked if one particular crash happened due to weather, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper said, “absolutely.”

In one of those crashes that happened south of Breedlove, Missouri State Highway Patrol says the vehicle went off the roadway due to wet roads and struck a concrete culvert. The driver was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

ABC 17 News spoke with the Missouri State Highway Patrol about driving in snowy conditions, and Sgt. Thompson simply said, “If drivers just pay attention to their speeds they will be ok.”

Sgt. Thompson told ABC 17 News that on a day when snow or ice is present on roads, it’s not uncommon for him to respond to 10-20 crashes a day.
