Mizzou QB enters the transfer portal

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou quarterback Connor Bazelak has entered the transfer portal after spending three seasons with the program. He announced his decision on social media on Thursday.

Bazelak started 11 of MU's 12 regular season games this season, but head coach Eli Drinkwitz elected to go with Brady Cook at quarterback for the Armed Forces Bowl. Cook played well in his first career start on Wednesday night. The St. Louis native was 27-for-34 for 238 yards and a touchdown. He also ran nine times for 53 yards and a score. Bazelak did not take a single snap in the Tigers 24-22 loss to Army.

"This is a tough decision that I have been thinking about for the last several weeks, but I wanted to be available for my team one last time in the bowl game," Bazelak said on social media. "After much prayer and discussion with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal to continue my academic and athletic career. Thank you again, Mizzou."

Bazelak was the SEC Co-Freshman of the Year in 2020, but he was not as effective throughout his redshirt sophomore season. He threw for 2,548 yards and 16 touchdowns. Bazelak also had 11 interceptions. The Ohio native did battle through a soft tissue injury for the second half of the season.

In other transfer news - former Mizzou tight end Daniel Parker Jr. committed to Oklahoma late Wednesday night. He announced his decision on social media.
