At 50.7F, November came in as the sixth warmest November on record for Columbia. It was 2.1F cooler than our warmest November ever, but the going trend this year has been above average temperatures.

Here’s a list of the Top 10 warmest Novembers on record in Columbia:

– 1931 ——- 52.8F

– 2001 ——- 50.8F

– 2016 ——- 50.7F

– 1902 ——- 50.6F

It just so happens that as we flip the calendar to Dec. 1, also known as meteorological winter, the temperatures are finally knocked back to reality. Currently a stacked low pressure system over the Great Lakes region is keeping temperatures on the cool side through the rest of this week. As the system exits, we’ll experience a slow warming trend back into the 50s, which isn’t unusual to see. The big change comes as we head into the second week of December, where the ABC 17 Stormtrack weather team is eyeing the potential for a significant cool down. It’s likely that as we head into next week we’ll see a blast of arctic air that will keep temperatures in the 30s for highs, with overnight lows in the 20s.
