Jefferson City woman pleads guilty to tax evasion
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jefferson City woman pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to tax evasion and failure to file form 5500 report (a 401K plan for employees).
Volmert was charged in a 14-count indictment in 2018.
Volmert was the majority owner and operator of GVA and Associates, LLC in Jefferson City. The company provides medical billing and coding services for the electronic submission of medical claims.
According to court documents, in 2012 Gina Volmert attempted to lower her taxes from $14,000 to $1,400 by fraudulently submitting reimbursable expenses. When Volmert filed her W-2 in 2013, she claimed over $13,000 in wages but her actual income was over $163,000 and thus owed over $36,000. Volmert also failed to file an annual financial report (form 5500) for a 401K program an employee was enrolled in.
For tax evasion, Volmert faces up to five years in prison, a $100,000 fine, not more than three years' supervised release, an order of restitution and a $100 mandatory special assessment per felony count of conviction to be paid in full at the time of sentencing.
For the failure to report form 5500, Volmert faces a maximum penalty of not more than ten years' imprisonment, a $100,000 fine, not more than three years' supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment per felony count of conviction to be paid in full at the time of sentencing.
