Prefiling begins at Missouri Capitol
Wednesday marks the first day state lawmakers can submit bills for consideration in the upcoming legislative session.
These prefiled bills will be the first to potentially be assigned to a committee when the session begins Wednesday, Jan. 4 at noon.
The following are among the bills already filed:
HB 38 Higdon, Galen
Provides that mandatory minimum sentences are now discretionary and creates provisions when a person is eligible for a parole hearing.
HB 40 Higdon, Galen
Requires the Amber Alert System Oversight Committee to adopt criteria to expand the Amber Alert system to provide peace officer safety alerts.
HB 41 McCann Beatty, Gail
Specifies that if charges are filed against a law enforcement officer based on an officer involved shooting, the judge must appoint a special prosecutor.
HB 42 White, Bill
Specifies that a person cannot be required to become or refrain from becoming a member of or paying dues to a labor organization as a condition or continuation of employment.
HB 57 Haefner, Marsha
Adds to the list of hate crimes certain offenses committed against law enforcement officers and first responders when the offenses are committed because the person is a law enforcement officer or first responder.
HB 60 Alferman, Justin
Changes laws regarding lobbyist expenditures. (Bans all lobbyist gifts to lawmakers)
HB 62 Berry, T.J.
Changes the laws regarding marriage and replaces marriage licenses with contracts of domestic union.
HB 68 Wessels, Fred
Establishes the Narcotics Control Act.
HB 76 McGaugh, Joe Don
Provides that certain persons shall not be required to disclose news sources or information.
