New Bloomfield home destroyed in fire Thanksgiving evening

A fire destroyed an unoccupied house on the corner of Elm Avenue and Mulberry Street Thursday.

New Bloomfield Police Chief Christopher Hammann said it appears the fire started in the back of the house and spread throughout, causing the upstairs to collapse.

investigators say the cause of the fire was most-likely electrical wiring from a furnace which received maintenance Wednesday.

Hammann said no one was home at the time of the fire. The initial call to first responders was at 5:30 p.m.

Crews from New Bloomfield, Holt’s Summit, Central District and South Callaway were on scene until just after midnight.

The Red Cross is assisting the family of three.
