Investigation underway after train derails in southeastern Saline County

NAPTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

An investigation is underway after a Union Pacific train derailed over the weekend in southeastern Saline County.

A spokesperson for Union Pacific said the derailment happened at the Route E crossing in Napton, Missouri around 4 a.m. Sunday.

No one on the train was hurt in the derailment.

The spokesperson said around 40 rail cars carrying a variety of items, including wheat, derailed at the railroad crossing.

According to Union Pacific, crews have started to clean up the derailment and repair the tracks.

The Federal Railroad Administration is investigating the cause of the derailment.
