New details confirmed about County Park shooting, victim was held captive

New details have surfaced regarding the County Park shooting on Monday in Jefferson City.

Witnesses saw Jerry Dean Gill shoot at a female victim twice with a handgun. After Gill left the scene, the witnesses saw the victim lying on the ground, then get into a green truck. While responding to the call about the shooting, a deputy was flagged down by the driver of a green truck, where the victim identified herself and then told the deputy that Gill was her ex-boyfriend.

The victim was transported to University Hospital. While at the hospital, the victim told authorities that Gill had held her captive in his car since Saturday afternoon. According to the victim, Gill took her phone, made her urinate in her pants and physically assaulted her with a baton and his fist.

On Monday afternoon, Gill drove to County Park, where he let the victim get out to use the restroom. When she refused to get back into his car, he shot her in the right forearm. He then yelled, “I’m going to kill you,” and shot at the victim a second time, but missed.

The victim told authorities that the handgun Gill used was a silver over black Smith & Wesson .40 cal, and that he has threatened her with the same gun in the past.

Gill was last seen driving a white Chrysler 300 with a missing side mirror and a spare tire on one of the front wheels.
