Cooler temperatures and dry conditions

It’s beginning to feel a lot like….fall? Yes, we are nearing the end of November and it is finally starting to feel colder outside. No thanks to the recent high pressure systems that would build out west in the perfect position to where us in Mid-Missouri were receiving warm and dry air. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing that we were receiving warmer temperatures later in late October and early November, but a lot of us in Missouri love the colder weather. And although it is not quite as cold as some of us would prefer, it is a bit cooler as of this weekend.

After the cold front that gave parts of Mid-Missouri rain early Friday morning and gave the rest of Mid-Missouri almost unbearably high winds on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, we are trending much colder than previous weeks. And it’s all in the placement and movement of the upper and mid level air patterns.

High pressure continues to move right behind the cold front that just passed through Mid-Missouri on Friday. This high pressure is the reason we will be seeing much cooler temperatures for Saturday and then slightly warmer temperatures on Sunday and Monday. Instead of warm and dry air that recent high pressure systems have brought into Mid-Missouri, this high pressure is positioned just right to pull in the cooler northwesterly air.

Once this system transitions to the east by Sunday, it will start bringing in slightly warmer, yet dry, southeasterly winds. We will feel this warmer air by Sunday afternoon and Monday.
