Jefferson City Council to consider residents’ request to be annexed

City staff will introduce a bill to the Jefferson City Council Monday to annex multiple properties just off Highway 50.

Eighteen property owners in the Meadows by the Club Subdivision, which are located on Pinehurst and Willowlake courts, have signed petitions for voluntary annexation into Jefferson City.

“Without a consistent jurisdiction for basic services such as fire, police and street maintenance, providing public services adds complexity where none should exist,” the bill summary said.

The annexation would provide fire and police services to the properties. The city would also maintain the area’s streets and allow the residents to apply for street lighting, among other things.

The city council is set to hold a public hearing on Dec. 6.

If passed, the annexation would take effect Jan. 1, 2017.
