Falling temperatures Friday, cold weekend

A strong cold front will move through Mid-Missouri Friday morning, bringing a line of spotty showers followed by much cooler air. Ahead of the front, temperatures will be in the 60s early Friday morning for a mild start to the day. A line of light showers will move in to near HWY 65 by 6 AM, moving east to HWY 63 by 8 AM and east and out of the area by 10 AM. Areas west of HWY 63 will likely only see up to a few hundredths of an inch of rain with many spots missed by the rain. However, as the line moves east, it will become better organized and rainfall amounts will be higher with up to two tenths of an inch possible in our eastern counties.

It will be a windy day with west to northwesterly winds gusting up to 30 mph at times as the colder air moves in. Temperatures will fall from the 60s in the morning to the mid 40s by early evening. The wind will make it feel colder producing wind chills in the upper 30s by 5 PM.

Lows will drop to the low 30s Friday night with winds diminishing to 10 mph. This breeze will produce wind chills as low as 20 degrees by daybreak Saturday as skies clear out.

We only warm into the mid to upper 40s Saturday afternoon under mostly sunny skies with wind chills in the 30s. The wind becomes light Saturday night which will allow temperatures to drop into the mid to upper 20s under clear skies. A hard freeze is likely as temperatures will be at or below the freezing for 9-11 hours Saturday night.

Sunday will feel nicer due to light winds and sunny skies as high temperatures reach the lower 50s for a cool but quiet afternoon.
