More lane closures set for Missouri River Bridge

Jefferson City area drivers will face more lane closures on the Missouri River Bridge just days after the westbound bridge reopens.

Crews will shut down one right lane of the westbound Route 54/63 bridge for follow-up work starting Tuesday night.

The Route W on-ramp to westbound Route 54/63 will also be closed with a posted detour.

The closures will last every night from 6:00 p.m. to midnight through Nov. 21.

It is to allow the contractor on the bridge painting job to repair parts of the bridge’s substructure, according to MoDOT.

“We have to have the lane closed so we can have our concrete mixer and pump up on the bridge to pump the concrete down,” MoDOT Resident Engineer Reid Riley said.

The new closures were not compelty unexpected.

“Our main goal was to get the bridge open to the traveling public for the majority of the hours, and if there was a few minor items we had to do to put in single lane closures during non-peak hours that was always a possibility,” Reid said.

However, once the work on the substructure is complete, drivers can rest easy.

“After we get the substructure repaired completely, it’ll be completely done,” Riley said.
