New manager at Columbia Airport already leaving

ABC 17 News confirmed with officials Columbia’s new airport manager, Tamara Pitts, is resigning after spending just two months on the job.

“While we are disappointed, we want to assure citizens and our customers that daily operations along with our long term goals and vision for Columbia Regional Airport remain the same,” said City Manager Mike Matthes.

Pitts started September 12, but her last day was Friday, November 11. She worked with longtime manager, Don Elliott, for about two weeks before he officially retired on September 30. The city says a search for another replacement “will begin in the near future.”

“As we embark on one of the largest infrastructure improvement projects with the reconstruction of runway 13-31 and continue planning for a new airport terminal, we are fortunate to be able to draw on many resources within city operations and through our consultants which will keep these and future projects moving forward,” said Stacey Button, Director of Economic Development.
