Pursuit suspect drowns in Miller County

Captain Louie Gregoire with the Miller County Sheriff’s Office said the department is investigating a drowning that happened early Saturday morning following a pursuit.

At 5:41 a.m., deputies were called to Haynes Ranch Road, just east of Eldon, for reports of a suspicious vehicle.

Capt. Gregoire said two people inside the car sped away when they tried to approach it. The deputies then followed the car to Kent Road where the driver reportedly ran through three fences and then crashed into a pond.

Authorities said a female passenger was immediately taken into custody, but said the man driving the car continued to flee into the pond.

Two K-9 teams were brought in to help search for the man who was found on the other side of the pond. Capt. Gregoire said the man then went back into the pond and did not resurface.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol recovered the man’s body at 10:15 a.m.

The Miller County Sheriff’s Office they are working to notify family members before identifying the man and woman.

The Eldon Police Department, Moreau Fire Protection District, Mid-County Fire Protection District and the Miller County Ambulance District assisted in this morning’s incident.
