Cole County Sheriff’s Department announces key staffing changes

The Cole County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday that three key staffing changes will occur after the election.

Lt. Gary Hill will be leaving the department on Nov. 23 and begin serving as chief of campus police at Lincoln University on Dec. 1.

The department also announced Sgt. Mike Sneller will fill Hill’s position as patrol division commander.

Finally, Lt. Aaron Bolinger has accepted the position of chief deputy of Cole County, a title now held by the unchallenged candidate for sheriff, Capt. John Wheeler.
