Wednesday evening storm cleanup in Columbia

A strong, quick-moving storm made its way into Columbia around 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.

ABC 17 Stormtrack radar showed the storm moved out of Columbia by 6:15 p.m and dumped nearly three-quarters of an inch of rain.

Boone County Emergency Management reported wind gusts of 50 miles per hour and marble-sized hail. Other reports showed quarter-sized hail.

Up to 1,000 Columbia residents were without power for a period of time Wednesday night. According to Boone Electric Cooperative’s outage map, crews responded to three different outages in northeast Columbia.

Around 7:30 p.m., ABC 17 News saw crews working to remove a large tree branch from power lines behind a home on Snead Drive just off of E. St. Charles Road.

As of 8 p.m., 379 residents were still without power in the northeast part of Columbia. At the same hour, Columbia Water and Light was reporting 13 residents without power.

Power was fully restored around 10:30 p.m.
