Suspects at large after home invasion on Bethel Church Road

Columbia Police officers responded to the 5400 block of Bethel Church Road on Tuesday because of a home invasion with a gun around 12:30 p.m.

Two male suspects dressed in dark clothing approached a residence in the area. The occupant of the home answered the door and the suspects forced their way into the home. The suspects were armed with at least one handgun and demanded the occupant’s money.

One suspect struck the victim in the head with the handgun. The suspects took items from the victim’s home before fleeing the area. Upon officers’ arrival, the victim refused transport to a hospital for his minor injury. There was no reported property damage as a result of the invasion, and the suspects are still at large.

ABC 17 News spoke with some residents in the area who say they were shocked when they first heard of the news. Residents did recall a suspicious maroon colored vehicle in the area, then later saw people running away fast.
