UPDATE: Drowning victim in Columbia lake identified
UPDATE (10/30): Authorities have identified the victim in Saturday’s drowning as Cole Bradley, 24, of Gladstone, Mo.
UPDATE (6:55 p.m.): Officials said they have found the body of a man who jumped into the lake Saturday afternoon.
Crews used sonar equipment, which helped them focus in on an area of the lake where they recovered the body.
ORIGINAL STORY: Right now, the Columbia Fire Department has a boat in the lake behind Las Margaritas restaurant on Southampton Drive in south Columbia.
According to dispatch records, 10 different units were called to the scene just before 4 p.m. for a water rescue.
Witnesses tell ABC 17 News they saw one person go into the water and followed by more people jumping in after them.
Assistant Chief Brad Frazier confirmed fire crews are looking for a man in the 6-12 foot water. Frazier couldn’t confirm if alcohol was believed to be involved in the incident.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is assisting with the search.
Crews have shut down John Garry Drive. Las Margaritas is also closed while crews continue to search the lake.
