Scherer and Beckner Jr. likely out for season

The University of Missouri football team confirmed Tuesday afternoon two defensive starters will likely miss rest of the season.

Head coach Barry Odom told ABC 17 News sophomore defensive linemen Terry Beckner Jr. and senior linebacker Michael Scherer are likely out for the remainder of the season.

Scherer has a torn ACL and MCL. Beckner Jr. is out with a torn ACL. This is Beckner Jr.’s second ACL injury in as many years. He tore his other ACL last November.

Scherer has started in 33 straight games dating back to the beginning of the 2014 season. He’s currently the team’s leading tackler. This injury likely will end his football career with the Tigers.

Both players were injured in Missouri’s homecoming loss to Middle Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon.
