MU homecoming parade underway, event marks one-year since campus protests

The University of Missouri will host their 105th homecoming the weekend of October 21-23.

This homecoming will mark the first year since the protests at Mizzou’s 2015 homecoming.

During that specific weekend, the group Concerned Student 1950 protested former UM System President Tim Wolfe.

During the protest, the student group blocked Wolfe’s car from participating in the homecoming parade.

Footageof a responding Columbia Police Officer later showed the chaos as MUPD officers tried breaking up the protest. The surfaced footage also revealed former MU professor, Melissa Click, protesting with the student-led organization.

The homecoming protest spurred more protests, a hunger strike and, eventually, Tim Wolfe’s resignation.

This year, MUPD is prepared if something similar happens. However, the hope 2016’s homecoming is more positive than last year’s.
