Lynlee Renick to take the stand in day three of her murder trial

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Lynlee Renick told a judge yesterday she plans on taking the witness stand in day three of her murder trial Wendesday, more than three years after she allegedly killed her snake-breeding husband Ben Renick in 2017.

Renick and Michael Humphrey were charged in January of 2020 with first-degree murder in Ben's death after he allegedly planned on ending the couple's marriage.

The defense plans to continue calling witnesses in court Wednesday, including Lynlee. After the last witness testifies for the defense, both sides will present closing arguments before jury deliberations.

The judge presiding over the case said the trial could end Wednesday.

Tuesday in court, prosecutors said money was the motive for Lynlee killing her husband, as he was set to make $1.2 million dollars from his snake-breeding business.

Prosecutors on Tuesday focused on Facebook messages between Lynlee and Ben while questioning one of the investigators. The messages show Ben Renick confronting his wife about her struggling business and telling her that he was expecting a large sum of cash from his snake-breeding business.

Friends and family members of Lynlee also took the stand Tuesday, talking mostly about her character. One family friend said, "she's quiet, meek, a great mother, wife, family was everything," when describing Renick's character.

On Monday Ashley Shaw and Michael Humphrey, accused of conspiring with Renick, took the stand.
