Rain chance Wednesday followed by cooler air

A trough of low pressure aloft will move into Missouri Thursday morning, interacting with a stationary front in southern Missouri. Showers and t-storms will develop along and north of the front and push east and out of Mid-Missouri Thursday morning.

Spotty showers will be possible by Wednesday morning along and just north of Interstate 44, gradually building to the north through the day to near Interstate 70 by mid-afternoon. These are expected to be light and very hit and miss. By late-afternoon, thunderstorms are possible but mainly along and south of I-44 where there is a very low chance of a severe storm with strong wind gusts and large hail.

Clouds and showers will continue Wednesday night into Thursday morning with the best chance of rain south of HWY 54. Rain will move out by mid-morning Thursday as skies clear and cooler air moves in. Rainfall amounts from Wednesday night through Thursday morning are expected to come in at a tenth inch or less along the I-70 corridor with higher amounts of a half inch to three quarters of an inch closer to I-44. Many areas north of I-70 will stay dry.

Cooler weather moves in Thursday and Friday with high temperatures in the lower 60s under mostly sunny skies. It will get chilly Thursday night with overnight lows near 40. As winds shift back to the south, we’ll start warming up again with a mild, dry weekend.
