Residents out of home after Jefferson City fire

Jefferson City officials believe a Friday fire was caused by careless smokers.

Firefighters went to Edmonds Street around 1 Friday afternoon between Stadium and Missouri Boulevard.

A neighbor called after seeing heavy smoke coming from the living room and attic.

Nobody was home when it started, but now the Red Cross is helping them find somewhere else to stay because of the damage.

Investigators think it was sparked by “careless disposal of smoking materials.”
