Mid-Missouri volunteers leave to deliver donations, aid to Hurricane Matthew victims

A team of volunteers headed by the Maries County Sheriff’s Office is on its way to Florida Friday to help victims of Hurricane Matthew in the Bahamas.

Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman told ABC 17 News the sheriff’s office collected two truckloads of donations including diapers, baby formula, filtration systems, canned goods and water. It also collected more than $1,000 in monetary donations.

The nine-person crew should get to Northern Andros Island by Monday to deliver the supplies and give aid, according to Heitman.

You can still donate to the group’s GoFundMe page here. The group will take donations on the website until Saturday night to help buy more supplies.
