Randolph County man makes threats in incriminating call from jail

Joseph Lee Kertz had a conversation with his mother from the Randolph County Jail following his arrest on Oct. 6, threatening to flee the country after he posted his bond and to shoot at officers who would attempt to stop him.

Kertz was arrested on Oct. 6 for first degree murder in Moberly, Missouri. According to official court documents, Kertz was threatening to post bond, flee the country, shoot any officers who tried to apprehend him and “find” the detective who was on his case.

Due to that phone call, the Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney motioned to increase Kertz”s bond for the “interest of public safety.” As a result, Kertz is being held without bond.
