Columbia fire, Ameren respond to overnight gas leak in north Columbia

UPDATE 7:44am: Officials with the Columbia Fire Department confirm firefighters responded to a gas leak overnight in north Columbia.

They say a worker was cutting the ground for a midnight fiber cable cut and hit the gas line.

Columbia fire officials say one truck responded to the scene and stayed for about 45 minutes until Ameren crews arrived.

They say no one was evacuated for the leak.

ORIGINAL: ABC 17 News is working to find out what caused a gas leak in north Columbia Tuesday.

Public dispatch records show at least one crew responded to the scene around 1:30 Tuesday morning.

Boone County EMA also sent an alert about the leak around 2:30am.

Our ABC 17 News team saw crews working on the scene around 5:00am and at least one Ameren truck remained on scene around 7:00am.

ABC 17 News has reached out to the fire department for more information about what caused the leak and if it’s been repaired. We’re still waiting to hear back.
