Storms and cooler air move in Wednesday

After a warm-up Tuesday, a cold front will bring showers and storms into Mid-Missouri late Tuesday night through Wednesday. Showers and t-storms will move in along I-70 early Wednesday from 5-7 AM, spreading east-southeast through the morning. Heading into the afternoon, a line of scattered storms is expected south of I-70, moving southeast to I-44 by 9 PM and out of the area.

Most areas will pick up a quarter to half inch of rain but higher amounts of a half inch to three quarters of an inch are possible near I-70.

There could be enough instability to produce a strong or severe storm Wednesday afternoon mainly as the front pushes into the Ozarks. A storm with strong wind gusts or 1 inch hail is possible, depending on afternoon heating.

Winds will shift to the northwest behind the cold front, ushering in much cooler air for Wednesday night and Thursday. Temperatures are expected to drop to near 40 by Thursday morning, only climbing to near 60 by afternoon despite abundant sunshine.
