Columbia woman to be sentenced on child pornography charges

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Brittany Bailey, is set to be sentenced in federal court after originally being charged with knowingly distributing child pornography and conspiring with others to distribute and receive it in May of 2019.

Prosecutors reached a plea agreement with Bailey in September and will plead guilty to advertisement of child pornography.

Due to the plea deal, prosecutors asked for the minimum sentence, of 15 years. The maximum sentence for Bailey would have been 30 years.

According to court documents, a detective with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., went undercover and became a part of a public group on Kik, a messaging app.

In the group, moderators and users allegedly discussed the sexual abuse of children and encouraged members to post and share.

Investigators said several people in the group posted videos and images showing child pornography.

Bailey's sentencing is set for 10 a.m. on Thursday.
