Victim identified in deadly crash on Hwy. 40 west of Columbia

UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: Officials have identified the victim as Antawan Ferguson, 25, from Fulton. The Missouri State Highway Patrol claims Ferguson crossed the center line, hitting a dump truck driven by Melvin Pinkett, 36, of Columbia.

UPDATE 9:40 a.m.: The Boone County Fire Protection District confirms one man in a van is dead after a crash involving a dump truck on Highway 40 between Midway and Rocheport west of Columbia.

MoDot Central District tweeted saying Highway 40 is shut down at Route J. The road is expected to be closed in both directions for several hours.

Troopers are currently investigating what happened. Firefighters say the dump truck’s driver refused to be taken to the hospital and was not treated at the scene.

ORIGINAL: Emergency crews are responding to reports of a crash in west Boone County.

It happened just after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 40 near Route J.

Public dispatch records show at least nine units are responding to the crash right now.

ABC 17 News is hearing reports that at least one person is trapped in a vehicle. Reports also indicate the crash involved a dump truck and a mini van.

ABC 17 News has a crew on the way to the scene. Our crews are working to find out what caused the crash, if anyone was hurt and if it is impacting traffic.
