MONDAY UPDATES: DHSS adds 81 coronavirus related deaths after analyzing death certificates

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has added 81 COVID-19 related deaths after the state’s disease surveillance system analyzed several death certificates.

Officials say the deaths will be captured and reported publicly through the dashboard Tuesday morning.

Of the 81 deaths:

  • One in June
  • One in August
  • One in September
  • 19 in October
  • 59 in November

Officials at DHSS report the weekly activity typically causes a sharp increase in the deaths added to Missouri’s total the following day. DHSS is now regularly analyzing death certificates on Mondays.

Officials say the state does not track probable or pending deaths.

Boone County reports more increase in hospitalizations over Thanksgiving holiday

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services reported 159 new COVID-19 cases from the holiday weekend.

There are currently 357 active cases in the county and 26,565 cases since the pandemic began. The county reported 26,031 cases removed from isolation.

Boone County ranks 11th in the state with the most coronavirus cases in total volume in the past week. Cases are down 23.6% when comparing last week to the prior week. The county has an 9.1% positivity test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).

The health department's hospital status is yellow with 76 COVID-19 patients in Boone County hospitals and 22 of them being Boone County residents. Of the 76 patients, 18 are in intensive care and five are on ventilators. The 76 cases is an increase of 10 from last Wedneday when last reported.

The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports that 109,481 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 95,888 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses.

Boone County has the third-largest percentage of county residents in Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 60.7%. The largest county in the state is St. Louis County with 64.2%.

Boone County is third in the state with a reported 53.1% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. St. Louis County is the first county in the state with 55.9% of residents having completed the doses for vaccination. The city of Joplin has 58.4% of the population fully vaccinated.

Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 52.2%. Callaway County is third with 48%.

The Columbia Public Schools reports active coronavirus and quarantine cases to their website daily.

The district reported a 29.7 14-day rate per 10,000 for Monday.

CPS reports eight district facilities (six elementary schools, one middle school and one high school) currently have staff out because of COVID-19. Four staff members at an elementary school, one staff member at a middle school and one staff members at a high school have tested positive for COVID-19. The district has one staff member at elementary school are currently quarantined because of COVID.

The district reports 30 district facilities to have students currently out due to the coronavirus. The district is reporting 20 of the elementary schools, six of the middle schools, three high schools and two district-wide facilities are affected.

There are 32 students that have tested positive for COVID-19. The district is reporting 20 students in elementary, four students in middle school, five students in high school and three students at a district-wide facility have tested positive for the coronavirus.

There are 162 students who are required to quarantine due to the coronavirus. The district reports 123 elementary students are currently quarantining, 24 students in middle school, 10 students in high school and seven students at district-wide facilities.

Cole county reports 72 new coronavirus cases over holiday weekend

The Cole County Health Department reported 72 new coronavirus cases from over holiday weekend.

According to the dashboard update, there are 12,055 residential cases and 288 long-term care facility resident cases. That is 11,982 total cases in the county.

Cole County reports there are 168 coronavirus deaths since the pandemic began.

Cole County ranks 30th in the state for counties with the most coronavirus cases per 100,000 in the past week. Cases are down 19.5% when comparing last week to the prior week. The county has reported a 10.8% positivity test rate, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports about 52.2% of the county have initiated their first dose of the vaccine and 47.6% of the county's population have been fully vaccinated.

The Jefferson City School District reported no new coronavirus cases in a student or staff member from over the weekend.

The district is reporting no new active cases in students or in staff.

The district is reporting 108 close contacts for students and nine close contacts for staff.

Missouri COVID cases continue to rise over Thanksgiving holiday

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Monday is the first day the state COVID dashboard has been updated since Nov. 24.

In the last week, there have been more than 5,200 confirmed PCR COVID-19 cases that were added to the dashboard. According to the dashboard, there have been nearly 739,000 confirmed COVID cases since the start of the pandemic.

According to the state dashboard there have been more than 1,360 probable cases since last Wednesday.

The Missouri COVID-19 dashboard says there have been nine new Coronavirus related deaths since Thanksgiving. There have been more than 12,500 COVID-19 related deaths since March 2020.

The online dashboard stated there are currently 779 patients in Missouri hospitals for COVID-19 with 179 patients in the Intensive Care Unit.

According to the dashboard, Missouri's positivity rate increased by 1.1% now sitting at 10.6%
