More chain stores say they will close on Thanksgiving
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ.)
More large retail stores are saying this year that they will close their doors on Thanksgiving -- a trend that has been gaining traction in recent years after Black Friday sales had pushed their way into the holiday.
The closures include Target, which said this week that it plans to permanently close on the holiday.
Goodwill said Wednesday that for the first time in 100 years it will close its stores on Thanksgiving and Christmas. The retail store made this decision to give their staff more time to spend with their loved ones.
A few shoppers in Columbia said their actually happy most retail stores will close on Thanksgiving because people should be using this time to spend with their families.
Columbia resident, Tim Koske says, "We spend a lot of time at work and we spend a lot of time on our hobbies and you know if we really measure that times that we spend without our wives and our children its probably not as much time as we need.

- Costco
- Ulta
- PetSmart
- Lowe's
- Petco
- Kohl's
- Old Navy
- Bed Bath and Beyond
- Office Depot
- Michael's
- Marshalls
- Dillards
- JC Penny
- Home Depot
- Gap
- Foot Locker
- Dick's Sporting Goods
Columbia resident Lawrence Selani says he's worked in retail and appreciates that so many stores are closing tomorrow.
"It's nice to uh have that day off or any really other holiday off to spend with your family. So I do sort of take that into account as well. I think that's a great thing um and I'm really glad", Salani said.
Salani also says retail stores closing on Thanksgiving won't affect his holiday shopping.
"I mostly do uh online shopping um uh you know for like Thanksgiving or Christmas", Salani says.
Many stores plan to reopen Friday.
Gerbes Super Market, Hy-Vee and Shwe Market International Food are a few grocery stores that will be open on Thanksgiving but with limited holiday hours.
