Insider Blog: Your Thanksgiving travel forecast

A change up is on its way to bring a big change to our pattern, just in time for your holiday travel.

An upper level wave moves closer to us by Wednesday evening, bringing with it, cooler weather and chances for rain.

The cold front that ushers in these changes will largely move through Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning.

While no winter weather is expected locally, you may still want to pad your travel time, especially if you're driving long distances. Rainfall alone can cause accidents and slow down interstate travel.

However, things look quiet if you're flying out of the Columbia Regional Airport on Wednesday. Conditions should cooperate for flights to both Dallas and Chicago.

Conditions will improve locally on Thanksgiving, with dry conditions expected throughout the rest of the week.

That changes if you're traveling to the Northeast Friday. Rain, wind, and snow fill the forecast from New York to Maine.

But again, if you're flying back from Dallas, or even Chicago, conditions should remain cooperative, but a bit cooler.
