Power restored for residents in downtown Jefferson City

UPDATE 5:15 p.m.: Power has been restored for residents in the Hamilton Tower in Downtown Jefferson City.

Crews were able to restore the power around 5:05 p.m.

UPDATE 4:05 p.m.: Ameren crews are replacing one transformer right now. They were waiting for it to come in from St. Louis.

Crews say that the outage could’ve been caused by an underground cable that failed or blew out.

The outage is only affecting one building right now. Ameren is hoping to have all power restored by 7:30 p.m.

Residents told ABC 17 News that all of the power is out, the elevators and automatic doors don’t work and the food in their fridges are going bad.

Residents say that they were originally told power would be restored by 3:30 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY: Two high-rises in Jefferson City have been affected by a transformer outage that happened between 4:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Monday, Ameren said.

The names of the high-rises are still unknown, but the transformer in question is on State St. and Jackson St. Crews are working on it now.

The transformer will be replaced, and in the meantime, crews are making upgrades to the cables in the area. The repairs are expected to be completed by 7:30 p.m.

Ameren does not know what caused the outage, but expects to find out as the day goes on.
