Public gives feedback for proposed Oakland Gravel Road recycling drop-off center

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility wants to get some public feedback from anyone interested in the proposed recycling drop-off center at the intersection of Oakland Gravel Road and Vandiver Drive.

For anyone interested in going to the meeting, it will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the 1A/1B conference rooms in City Hall.

Officials report the proposed recycling drop-off center could include up to 10 receptacles for fiber and plastics/tin/steel in an enclosed area similar to the drop-off sites on State Farm Parkway and on the South Providence outer road just north of Nifong Boulevard.

The project is estimated to cost $325,000 and is planned to be funded through Solid Waste Enterprise Revenues.

Construction would include excavation, site grading, installing concrete pavement, a perimeter fence, signage, the actual recycle bins and stormwater controls.

The city announced Tuesday, there will be a second meeting on Dec. 7 for the public to provide feedback in the City Hall Council Chambers.

At the meeting, the public will have the opportunity to view preliminary plans, and city staff will be on hand to answer questions.
