UPDATE: Columbia Police have arrested three men in connection to the fight on Waugh Street Friday night.

ORIGINAL STORY: Police were investigating an assault in the 200 block of Waugh Street Friday night.

Witnesses told ABC 17 News that a man on a scooter fought with three men at Paquin Park and a fight ensued, leaving the man on the scooter injured.

Police confirmed they recovered weapons, but would not say what kind. They also said three people were in custody after being pulled over a few blocks from the scene.

ABC 17 News was able to speak with the alleged victim who said the fight stemmed from an ongoing issue between himself and a family member of the three arrested.

He said he was at the park when the three confronted him with crowbars and one even showed a gun. He admitted he had a knife in his hand, but set it down. That’s when he and other witnesses said the three men surrounded him.

Witness David Will said, “One or two of them started taking swings at him, so finally the three of them got him down on the ground and gave him a whipping. You know, they gave him a good whipping too.”

Witnesses also said the three men got into a vehicle, then back out, and started beating the man again. Eventually, the victim was able to get away on his motorcycle.
