Columbia and Jefferson City officials talk holiday event safety

Both Jefferson City and Columbia have holiday events coming up and while Jefferson City will have several protocols in place Columbia officials said they have not had to in the past, and do not expect this year to be any different.

Jefferson City holiday events include Mayors tree lighting on December 2nd, Downtown Living Windows on December 3rd, and the Christmas parade on December 4th.

Angela Nale, with the Jefferson City Association, said all event-goers can expect officers there and safety protocols in place.

"Always be sure that all the intersections are blocked whether that be with a police car or even a fire truck to make sure it's not an easy access for someone to ram the parade or event with their vehicle," Nale said.

On December 3rd, Nickie Davis with the Downtown District CID said Columbia will hold its Living Windows event.

"Living Windows has been going on for 10-20 years, and that is where our small local businesses kinda dress up their windows, they have different themes and dance around in their windows," Davis said.

Davis said she doesn't expect any increased security efforts.

"I'm sure CPD is aware of the Living Windows event but we have never really needed them to be out it's all on the sidewalks not in the street," Davis said.
