Columbia Police respond to two shots fired incidents early Sunday morning

UPDATE, 11:00 a.m.: According to a press release from the Columbia Police Department, around 1:10 Sunday morning, officers were waved down by four women at Hitt Street and Broadway. The women told the officers a man they knew pulled out a gun and pointed it at them during an argument.

The women said they went to a home on the 1400 block of Bodie Drive. They told officers, they were outside next to a car when three black men starting shooting at them.

The women went inside the home and were not injured.

Officers did not find the suspects or shell casings but did find bullet holes in the car.

Around 2:30 Sunday morning, officers were dispatched to Whispering Meadows Court for a call about gun shots. Police found multiple shell casings and bullet holes in one of the homes.

A witness told police there were two black men running from the area. There were no arrests made and no reports of injuries.

According to the CPD press release, there is no evidence these two incidents are connected. However, earlier Sunday morning, a Columbia Police officer indicated to ABC 17 News they were related.

ORIGINAL STORY, 8:00 a.m.: The Columbia Police Department told ABC 17 News two shots fired incidents in north Columbia are connected.

The first happened on Bodie Drive at 1:10 a.m. Sunday. Police tell ABC 17 News they found one shell casing at that location.

Police received several calls about the Bodie Drive incident but the stories were conflicting.

The second happened around 2:30 a.m. on Whisper Meadows Court. Police say they found about six shell casings there.

A neighbor and eye-witness to the Whispering Meadows shooting told ABC 17 News there were two men involved and a home was hit by bullets. The neighbor said the two men ran through the wooded area near-by. She also the family who used to live in the home that was hit by bullets moved out two days ago.

On August 20, there was another shots fired called to Whispering Meadows Court where a home was hit by bullets.

Police told ABC 17 News they do believe the two are connected. They also say they believe who the central person is connecting these two incidents however that person has not been taken into custody yet.

CPD did not receive any calls about injuries due to the gun fire.

Since January 1, there have been more than 50 911 calls to Whispering Meadows Court.
