Bodies recovered from Lake of the Ozarks boat crash

UPDATE, Saturday, 1:15 p.m.: The MSHP confirms that both bodies of the men involved in the accident have been recovered as of 11:43 a.m.

MSHP says dive team was able to narrow down the area of where to search. Once they were in the water it took the team about thirty minutes to recover the bodies.

Both bodies were found at a depth of 68 feet.

The scene has been cleared. MSHP says they will now start to piece together what happened.

Lake of the Ozarks around mile marker 10 is open.

UPDATE, Saturday, 10:45 a.m.: The MSHP dive team has completed their sonar search. The next step is for the divers to get in the water and physically search the area.

Sergeant Scott White with Highway Patrol said they are still investigating what led to the crash. He said they haven’t determined if speed was a factor. The boat involved is a speedboat capable of reaching speeds upwards of 100 mph.

The annual shootout event will not be affected by the search. The crash happened at mile marker 10 and the event will be at marker 31.

MSHP is asking boaters to be aware of the law enforcement presence around the search area. There is currently a no-wake zone for one mile around the search. MSHP does have patrol boats posted near the search.

UPDATE, Saturday, 7:15 a.m.: MSHP is treating this as a recovery operation. According to Highway Patrol, the boat was traveling downstream and became airborne. The boat rolled in the air, hit the water, and flipped upside down.

Investigators believe one person was ejected and one stayed in the boat. Both are presumed dead.

Richard Prince, 49, is believed to be the driver. Bradley Dunphy, 40, is believed to be the passenger. Both men are from Louisiana.

The 2013 MTI was a total loss. It was towed from the scene.

UPDATE, Saturday, 12:50 a.m.:Troopers have pulled the boat from the lake at the Shawnee Bend Access. MSHP says at least one person was on board.

ORIGINAL: The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirms a boat has overturned at the Lake of the Ozarks.

MSHP says the call of an overturned water craft at mile marker 10 came in at 7:01 Friday night.

When emergency crews arrived they searched the boat and surrounding area but found no one.

It cannot be confirmed at the moment whether anyone was on the boat.

Highway patrol says it will be using sonar and enforcing a no wake area within one mile of the scene at 7:00 Saturday morning.

ABC 17 News crews will update this story from the scene as new information is learned.
