Car fire blocks Stadium Blvd. at Bernadette Dr.

A single vehicle crash closed part of Stadium Boulevard early Saturday morning.

A call came in at 3:35 a.m. about a fully involved car at Stadium Boulevard and Bernadette Drive. Columbia Fire and Police responded to the scene. The car was fully engulfed in flames. Our ABC 17 News crews could see the smoke about a half-mile away.

There was only one driver involved and he did not appear to have any injuries.

CPD arrested the driver on suspicion of drunk driving. Police have identified the driver as 23-year-old Corey Tucker.

According to a sergeant on scene, it’s believed Tucker was driving north on Stadium when he lost control of his car.

Investigators believe he spun out, then hit the median and traffic signal pole, before the car caught fire in the southbound lanes.

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle. It’s not clear if he attempted to flee the scene or left to get a safe distance away. It’s also not clear if the driver called 9-1-1 or if a witness called.
