Cox will bring an Olympic bronze medal back to Columbia

Mizzou and Team USA Wrestler J’den Cox is now an Olympic bronze medalist. Cox won his bronze medal match 3-1 over three-time World medalist Reineris Salas Perez of Cuba. Cox is now Mizzou’s seventh Olympic medalist.

Cox won his first two matches Saturday morning in the 86kg weight class with ease.First, No. 9 Cox defeated No. 17 Amarhaly Mahamedau of Belarus, 7-1. Cox then defeated No. 13Alireza Karimimachiani of Iran, 5-1, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Cox lost a closely contested match, 1-2, to No. 4 Selim Yasar from Turkey.

Cox is a two-time national champion at Mizzou in the 197 weight class. He won four state titles in four different weight classes at Columbia’s Hickman High School.
