CPS Finance committee set to recommend tax levy rollback

The Columbia Public Schools Board of Education Finance Committee is preparing to recommend a tax levy rollback.

The committee met Wednesday evening to review the proposed operating and debt service tax levies for 2016. During that meeting, the committee agreed to recomment a nine-cent rollback to the board.

According to Chief Financial and Operations Officer Linda Quinley, “The 65 cents they [voters] authorized would not be fully assessed next year, but rather it would stay out there approved by our voters for us to use over the next few years when we do in fact need it to sustain our long term plan.”

A tax rate hearing with the Board of Education will be held next Thursday.
