August “Sturgeon” Full Moon Wednesday Night

Tonight the Full Moon rises at 7:35 PM and sets at 5:34 AM Thursday morning. Conditions will be most favorable south of I-70 to see the full moon. Areas north of I-70 may have a partly cloudy sky. From 8PM-3AM there may be a few stray showers north of I-70, with clouds that could make for lower visibility. Areas closer to Jefferson City, the Lake of the Ozarks, and I-44 will have a better opportunity.

The August Full Moon gets it’s name because Native Americans called the August Moon the “Sturgeon Moon” because they knew that the sturgeon fish of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most caught during a full moon.
