Man charged in connection to auto repair shop burglary

A man was charged with burglary and tampering with a motor vehicle in Cole County Tuesday.

Court documents show Jefferson City police responded to Rollins Automotive on Idlewood Court Tuesday morning for a burglary alarm. Officers found a broken window. The investigation revealed $100 was missing from the cash register, as well as several sets of keys. Police also determined a vehicle was missing.

Police received a call from the Missouri State Highway Patrol saying the car was spotted in Poplar Bluff. Court documents claim the car almost struck a MSHP employee who was driving on the interstate. Troopers think the car was going more than 100 miles per hour.

The stolen vehicle crashed on Interstate 55. Investigators determined Chance Barnhouse was the driver. He was taken into custody and is at the Pemiscot County jail.
