Man flees from sheriff deputies into rushing flood waters
UPDATE 7/17/16 : John Belisle, the man suspected to have driven his car into a high water creek in Fulton was taken into custody Saturday night.
Several Callaway County Sherrif’s Office Deputies at a residence near Fulton, arrested him, after he was seen hiding inside a residence.
Belisle remains in custody at the Callaway County Jail.
Callaway County prosecuting attorney charged Belisle with multiple offenses. Two counts of second degree domestic assault, one count of third degree domestic assault, two counts of felony resisting arrest, and assault on a law enforcement officer.
His bond is set at $24,000.00 cash only.
ORIGINAL: A man escaped law enforcement Sunday afternoon after a short chase in Callaway County.
Sgt. Shannon Jeffries with the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department said deputies tried to pull over a man who had probable cause for a domestic violence assault.
Jeffries said the man fled deputies and drove his car into a low water crossing on County Road 139 near the Auxvasse Creek.
The car was then swept away by high flood waters.
Authorities said the man was last scene getting out of the car swimming with the current to avoid law enforcement. Deputies were not able to keep up along the banks.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol water division was called in to assist with the search, but authorities were unable to find him.
Sgt. Jeffries said there is currently no active search for the man at this time. He said the investigation is ongoing and the man’s name is not being released at this time.
