At least one person shot during Coats Street shooting; police find 12 shell casings

UPDATE: 10:20 a.m.: Columbia Police have confirmed there was at least one gun shot victim as a result of a shooting that happened at 1100 Coats Street.

Officers were in the area clearing the crowd near Club Vogue when they heard the gun shots from Coats Street.

Officers saw cars leaving the area. They also found shell casings in the street.

A short time later, officers were told a gun shot wound victim had gone to the hospital. Officers met the 19-year-old victim there. The man was hit in the leg. The victim told police it was from the shooting on Coats Street.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia Police say they found at least a dozen shell casings on Coats Street after hearing gun shots Sunday morning.

The shots were reportedly fired just after 3 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Coats Street in Northeast Columbia.

Officers on scene told our ABC 17 News crews they were helping clear the crowd at nearby Club Vogue when they heard the gun shots.

They said they saw cars leaving the area but did not provide our news crew with any description.

Right now, there are no reported injuries and police have not found any damage.

Since July of last year, police have been to Coats Street two other times for a shots fired incident. According to police dispatch records, there have been 77 total calls to Coats Street in the last year.
