Urban agriculture hosts Veterans Day event

KMIZ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture is hosting a free lunch for all vets. The event's location is at Mark and Carol Stevenson Veteran Urban Farm.

Urban Agriculture has hosted this same event before. Its purpose remains in serving Veterans in a variety of ways, including job training, hosting outdoor therapy sessions, and donating fresh vegetables to Veterans.

This year the company provided job training for vets through VA's transitional work program, which is a program that provides skills for Veterans looking to re-enter the civilian workforce.

The Veterans Event will start with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebrate funds the Urban Farm will receive from Veterans United.

The funds will go toward ADA-accessible teaching garden beds at the entrance of the farm.

Ozark Mountain Biscuit Company is providing all lunches but will not make sales to the public.

Veterans will also have the opportunity to sign up for future volunteer opportunities, take a socially distanced tour of Veterans Urban Farm and learn more information about the program.

All lunches are sponsored by the company EquipmentShare.

Vets can choose one entree of either a fried chicken biscuit or pulled pork biscuit. The sides are white cheddar mac and cheese and kale slaw.
