Local venues stepping up security following Terror attacks
Across our nation, security is on high alert following the recent events here at home, and overseas.
In Mid Missouri, some local businesses are taking their own steps to assure the safety of their customers, and event goers.
The Blue Note told ABC 17 News they recently equipped their bouncers with metal wands, two days after the Orlando attack.
Matt Gerding, the Blue Note’s owner, told ABC 17 News that “it was something we wanted to do, and set a tone at the door that we’re trying to create a safe environment.”
Some concert goers were ok with it, and some were hesitant.
Columbia Police Department told ABC 17 News that, “unless there’s a credible threat, they don’t have extra security,” they said, “if it’s a known person like the Vice President, then they would add extra security.”
Gerding told ABC 17 News that, the positives outweighed any negatives. Occasionally the lines to get in will be a little longer and slow the process down, but Gerding says “it still sends a good message.”
