Republican attorney general candidates raise over $5 million combined

The third quarter finance reports were just released for the attorney general candidates. With the ongoing rivalry between Kurt Schaefer (R) and Josh Hawley (R), ABC 17 News decided to compare their two campaign totals so far.

Schaefer has raised a little over $3 million while Hawley has raised about $2.25 million.

Currently all three of the reports show that Schaefer is largely being funded by Rex Sinquefeld, who is a political super donor based out of St. Louis, along with Grow Missouri, where Sinquefeld is a large contributor.

They both donated over $500,000 to Schaefer’s campaign.

Hawley has his largest donation coming from David Humphries, the owner of Tamko Building Products. His donated $1 million.

Missouri is a no limit state so anyone can donate however much they want to whomever.

One political science professor at Columbia College, Dr. Terry Smith says that this method could very well make the candidates swayed by their donors wishes.

On the Democratic side, Teresa Hensley has raised a little less than half a million dollars and Jake Zimmerman has raised a little less than 1.5 million.

The primary election for the new Attorney General is August 2.
