Rescue teams find missing woman in Rock Bridge State Park

UPDATE 7/13, 4:30 p.m. – Firefighters, park rangers, and conservation workers rescued a woman who became lost while hiking near the Devil’s Icebox Wednesday afternoon.

They found her on the other side of a swollen creek, where water was rushing forcefully and trapping her on the other side.

Crews walked all the way around the stream until they found a bridge. They crossed it and were able to walk her to safety.

She was unharmed and left in her car shortly after the rescue.

Boone County battalion chief Chuck Leake said the woman had not checked the weather forecast before going out hiking.

He said hikers should always be prepared when they are heading out and should let someone know where they are just in case.

He also recommended staying away from bodies of water if it’s going to storm, because they can rise quickly and become forceful enough to sweep someone away very easily.
